I've always dreamt of working in the management consulting industry, particularly at top firms like McKinsey & Co., BCG, and Bain & Co. During my time at Cannes Lions, I had the incredible chance to meet professionals from these renowned companies and even schedule one-on-one appointments with them. It was an amazing experience!
At Cannes Lions, I discovered that many people from these firms were present, and I wasted no time in reaching out to them and booking appointments. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to have personal discussions with experts from BCG and Bain & Co., gaining valuable insights into their work. BCG's Beach Cabana was a beautiful spot where I got to engage in insightful discussions and learn more about the firm.

Career Discussion with BCG Professional The first appointment that I had was with Birgit Gehring (Senior Manager Marketing & Communications at BCG X). She enlightened me about BCG X, a division of BCG that focuses on tech build and design. BCG X comprises technologists, scientists, programmers, engineers, and human-centered designers who tackle the world's most important challenges and opportunities. Their expertise lies in digital transformation, technology, data, and artificial intelligence. Unlike general business advising, BCG X emphasizes technical expertise, so candidates interested in joining must showcase specific technical skills. Birgit also shared her own career journey at BCG, explaining why she transitioned from a PR position in the corporate world to digital venture role at BCG X.

How Cannes Lions provided the media to connect with experts
The second appointment that I had was with Justin Halim (Expert Partner, APAC Marketing and Ecommerce Lead at Bain & Company). Justin, who was also a jury member at the Cannes Lions Festival, provided valuable insights into the role of marketing client-facing at Bain & Company. Generaly there are 3 marketing roles at Bain; core consulting for marketing case, internal marketing, and marketing client-facing. marketing client-facing role differs slightly from the core consulting role at Bain. While the core consulting team handles a variety of cases spanning different areas such as supply chain, digital transformation, people and leadership, and finance & investment, the marketing client-facing role at Bain focuses exclusively on marketing-related cases. Justin explained that the recruiting process for marketing client-facing positions differs from that of core consulting, as the case interview approach varies.
Overall, my meetings with these experts from BCG and Bain at Cannes Lions were eye-opening. I gained a deeper understanding of the unique aspects of their respective firms and the specific roles within the departments.
