I had the incredible opportunity of attending the "CMOs in the Spotlight" session at the Cannes Lions Festival, featuring Manuel Arroyo, Chief Marketing Officer at Coca-Cola, Mie-Leng Wong, Chief Marketing Officer at Mondelez, and Zach Kitschke, Chief Marketing Officer at Canva. These distinguished professionals shared invaluable insights into the skills required to become a successful CMO. However, what resonated with me the most was their collective emphasis on the importance of being present and focusing on the now, in order to allow everything else to follow naturally.
This notion is particularly predominant as we often become fixated on reaching a specific destination, failing to look at the significance of the journey and the experiences along the way. These experiences, whether they manifest as lessons, achievements, personal growth, or even uncomfortable changes, are invaluable. While ambition is a natural and healthy trait, it's equally crucial to pause and appreciate our current circumstances. Without this mindfulness, we run the risk of continuing to chase the next best thing, never finding true satisfaction.
The three CMOs agreed that focusing on the present and leveraging one's strengths are key to achieving long-term success. Their insights left a profound impact on me, particularly as this was my first event at the Cannes Lions Festival. I felt incredibly inspired listening to these talented individuals, who, despite their significant roles in major companies, managed to genuinely connect with the audience. They made it clear that achieving similar success is within our reach.
There is no magical formula for success, and it's natural to desire quick and easy solutions. However, the more we strive to make the most of what we have right now, the more likely we are to find ourselves exactly where we need to be.
