Working in the agency biz back in China, this trip was a golden ticket to compare and contrast the buzzing workflows and creative sparks between Eastern and Western media powerhouses. Ready to jet-set into the agency world with me? Let's go!
HAVAS- a prominent global advertising and communications group headquartered in France
During my enlightening visit to Havas in Paris, I delved deep into the intricate world of advertising agencies and their dynamic roles. The discussions were rich with insights, focusing heavily on the necessity of collaboration and creativity across various teams. It was fascinating to see how these teams—ranging from strategic planners to media experts—operate like a "village" to support client goals, whether that involves launching comprehensive ad campaigns or navigating the complex regulations of pharmaceutical advertising.
Speakers emphasized the crucial role of data analysis in shaping creative decisions and the importance of measuring the direct impact of these campaigns to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the ad spend. Furthermore, the sessions explored the nuances of media buying strategies tailored to specific markets, which helps in maintaining relevancy and preventing campaign fatigue.
The knowledge exchanged here, coupled with the innovative campaigns I witnessed, many of which were highlighted at Cannes Lions, provided a comprehensive view of the current and future states of advertising strategies in a global context.
CASE 1: THE DONATION MAP
This campaign was a real eye-opener for me! I was genuinely surprised to see how effectively political content can drive organic traffic and generate positive buzz across Europe.
CASE 2: Foundation Anne de Gaulle
In 1945, Charles de Gaulle and his wife Yvonne founded the Fondation Anne de Gaulle to honor their daughter Anne, who had Down syndrome, and support others with neurodevelopmental conditions. Despite its longstanding service, the Foundation lacked public recognition. To raise awareness, we embarked on an ambitious campaign by temporarily renaming Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport to Paris-Anne De Gaulle Airport.
This bold move leveraged General de Gaulle's enduring legacy, linking it directly to the Foundation's mission. The campaign involved a comprehensive rebranding of the airport’s interior and exterior signage, transforming everything from digital screens to road signs to display the new name. The centerpiece was the giant "Paris-Anne de Gaulle" lettering on each terminal, capturing the attention of over a million passengers weekly.
This partnership with major international corporation ADP allowed us to navigate the logistical challenges of altering a major public space without disrupting operations or security, highlighting a significant shift in support for people with disabilities globally.
EDG(European Digital Group)
The discussion at EDG focused on its strategic approaches to mergers and acquisitions (M&A), international expansion, and digital transformation. Key themes included the importance of cultural sensitivity, effective communication, and understanding different perspectives within a multicultural workplace. EDG's approach to acquiring and integrating companies was detailed, highlighting the need for thorough background research, assessing internal competition, and strategically managing labor costs.
Speakers shared insights on leveraging dedicated CRM systems to enhance lead management and visibility in the digital age, and the role of influencer partnerships in marketing strategies. The conversation also covered the critical importance of understanding the potential and incentives of founders and the strategic use of shares in partnerships.
Action items from the meeting included integrating all acquired companies into a centralized CRM system, setting up incentive programs for salespeople, creating targeted marketing content, and organizing regular events for partners and clients. The outlined strategies aimed to foster synergy between companies, enhance lead generation, and maintain a coherent marketing and growth strategy across the group.
Overall, the focus was on how EDG manages its diverse portfolio through strategic acquisitions, marketing efforts, and internal collaborations, ensuring growth and sustainability in the competitive digital industry landscape.
