Growing up in Miami as a first-generation American with Colombian parents, I was always surrounded by a blend of cultures, perspectives, and dreams. This unique background has given me a deep appreciation for the hard work and resilience needed to succeed in any field. So, when I found myself sitting in on a talk at the Cannes Lions Festival featuring Lando Norris, the F1 driver for McLaren, and Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren, I felt an immediate connection to their stories of high performance and relentless pursuit of excellence.

Lando Norris and Zak Brown weren’t just talking about racing; they were sharing life lessons that resonated deeply with me. Norris, with his youthful energy and unyielding determination, spoke about the mental toughness required to be an F1 driver. He described the intense focus needed to stay calm under pressure and how every race demands both physical and mental resilience. Norris’s journey reminded me that success isn’t just about raw talent; it’s about the dedication to continually improve and push beyond limits.

Zak Brown’s insights complemented Norris’s perfectly. He spoke about fostering a culture of excellence within McLaren, where every team member is encouraged to give their best. Brown’s emphasis on innovation and adaptability struck a chord with me. Growing up in Miami, a city known for its vibrancy and constant evolution, I’ve seen firsthand how the ability to adapt and innovate can set you apart. Brown’s leadership style, which values collaboration and collective success, reminded me of my own experiences working in diverse teams and the power of a supportive environment.

What stood out to me was the synergy between individual excellence and team success. Norris’s personal commitment to his craft and Brown’s strategic vision for McLaren showcased how high performance is a blend of personal and collective effort. It’s a lesson that applies not just in sports, but in any pursuit—whether it’s marketing, fashion, or any other field.

Reflecting on their talk, I realized how these principles of high performance align with my own journey. As a 23-year-old woman navigating the complexities of a marketing career while balancing my cultural heritage, I’ve learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, and teamwork. Just like McLaren, I strive to blend individual excellence with a collaborative spirit, continually pushing myself to achieve more.
