Parisian Vignettes: Captured on 35mm

Writer: Jackie BenischJackie Benisch

Every new city I have the privilege to travel to excites me, especially when I can bring my film camera and photograph it. As a photographer, my portfolio consists of warm tones. I deem a city a warm or cool tone city based on the vibe I get from it. Paris, the City of Light, I saw in a warm light.

Capturing the Essence of Paris

Above is a photo of the Louvre, a very recognizable landmark that many can pinpoint as located in Paris. When I photograph landmarks, I usually prefer shots without people, but with this particular photo, I appreciated seeing the tourists. It added life and context to the scene. After taking this shot, I became more compelled to photograph the people of this city.

A Dance of Culture

One of my favorite photos captures couples dancing together in a group, seemingly doing the tango. There was very little talking, just the music and those dancing. What I love about this photo is that you don't necessarily know which city it is located in; it just showcases the people. This image illustrates a universal human experience, transcending its specific location.

Blending Landmarks and Locals

The last photo I want to highlight perfectly mixes a landmark with the locals. Taken from the perspective of me standing inside the Louvre, I love seeing the silhouette of people in the photo. This shot captures the blend of historical grandeur and everyday life, a testament to Paris's unique charm.

Insights into French Marketing

Photographing Paris allowed me to observe the subtle yet impactful ways brands market themselves in France. Whether it's the elegance of high-end fashion houses or the authenticity of local markets, French marketing strategies emphasize cultural resonance and emotional connection. For instance, seeing couples dance near the Louvre reminded me of how brands like Cartier and Chanel use romantic and timeless imagery to create an emotional bond with their audience.

As a photographer, capturing Paris in warm tones allowed me to appreciate the city's blend of history, culture, and daily life. These experiences enrich my understanding of marketing and branding, highlighting the importance of connecting with people on a personal level. Paris, with its vibrant streets and rich heritage, offers endless inspiration for both my photography and my insights into the world of marketing.

In conclusion, my time in Paris was not just a visual delight but also an educational journey. Observing the city's marketing strategies and photographing its essence provided me with valuable insights that I will carry forward in my creative and professional endeavors.
