During the Cannes Festival, many companies, such as Pinterest, Microsoft, and Reddit, hold brand activations. One of the brand activations that I particularly enjoyed was the Meta Beach. They provided amazing snacks, refreshments, seats under shade, and various programs throughout the week. It was there that I had the opportunity to meet the Young Lions competitors from Romania and Nigeria.
I was very interested in their experience, and they kindly shared their candid feelings about what it was like preparing and waiting for the final award ceremony, which took place on Friday, June 23rd.
The Young Lion Competitions are for young creatives under the age of 30 who are currently working at agencies in the marketing, PR, and communications industries. Candidates submit their work and represent their countries and agencies in categories such as Design, Digital, Film, Marketers, Media, PR, and Print.

Romania has had previous representatives in the festival. This year, Lonut Raicu and Madalina Pop represented their design from the Tribal Worldwide advertising agency in the competition.
Madalina Pop said, "This was part of a competition and program curated by The Alternative School. Every year, one team is chosen by a jury in Romania. We also only submit in one category."
Lonut Raicu added, "Upon arriving at Cannes, we were tasked with completing a brief within a 24-hour timeframe for submission. The work is only showcased if you win, so the work is not over even after being selected to participate in the festival."
Nigeria has also been represented in the festival. The X3M Ideas agency by Steve Babaeko is one of Nigeria's prominent participants. They also made history by winning the first-ever Cannes Lion for West Africa. For the Young Lions Competitions, team members were Suchet Baba, Ayomide Orobiyi, Godswill Kalu, and Emmanuel Oguama.
Suchet Baba said, "There was a pan-African competition with different countries in Print, Media, Film, Digital, and Design. Nigeria won for print and design, which was submitted on behalf of our agency. The winner of each category comes to represent in Cannes."
Godswill Kalu added, "It was definitely stressful to have only 24 hours to create a brief, but in the end, it was rewarding once we submitted and won."
To immerse yourself in a melting pot of ideas and creativity where young creatives can showcase their work and learn from industry veterans, Cannes is the place to be. The Young Lions Competitions provide a platform for talented young creatives to represent their countries and agencies and showcase their skills. The Meta Beach brand activation was just one example of the many opportunities to connect and learn from others in the industry.
